Kevin / Markus:  thanks, it's working like a charm...yay!  The full source 
distribution wasn't installed when the system was put in place, so rather 
than wait for the entire tree to be downloaded by CVSUp, I used SysInstall 
to install the 4.6.2-RELEASE source tree, and CVSUpp'ed it to the latest 
(patched) release version.
