I have a 1GB Maxtor and a 2GB Seagate, both of which are currently on the
2940U. I did have the 1GB on the 1542. I do not believe the brand of
drive has any thing to do with this issue.

You must have what you call a dos partiton because that is what the bios
is looking for to boot from.

I disagree.

I'll take the 2940 off your hands for $25

Your description of what you have done is a little vague is several
places. This makes it a little diffuicult for me to be sure what it is
you have done. I find when I have tried many different combinations that
I start losing track of what I have done. I would suggest you eliminate
as many variables as possible by doing as follows:

Install the 2940 and a single scsi drive into a system.

lowlevel format the drive.

boot from the boot floppy.

Partition the disk with a single FreeBSD Partition (do not use
"dangerously dedicated" partitioning).

label the disk, using the defaults (thus keeping the root partition within
the first 1024 cyclinders).

Install FreeBSD.

If you do exactally this and it does not work let me know.
