change into the "conf" directory (presumably /usr/src/sys/conf)

Apply the patch from the "files.diff" file.  That patch will likely
add some lines to a file within the conf directory.  Read "man patch"
and "man diff" for more information on these things.  If you read the
files.diff file yourself you might be able to work out what is supposed
to change.
