Could you provide a reference to some document that describes it? Solaris and FreeBSD are both UNIX-derived operating systems. Solaris 2 is derived from System V Release 4 and Solaris 1, which was derived from SunOS, which was derived from 4.1cBSD more than 15 years ago. So to say that modern-day Solaris is BSD is stretching things. it's much more SysV than anything else. Modern FreeBSD is derived from 4.4BSD-Lite 2. It's probably the closest thing to BSD that you can come by these days. So what's the difference? Well, you don't have to pay to use FreeBSD. The full source code for FreeBSD is available for scrutiny and modification. FreeBSD does not run on Sun's computers. Solaris does. Ciao, Sheldon.
