Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who helped me with this issue and let you know what the resolution was... Yesterday I downloaded the kern.flp and mfsroot.flp for FreeBSD 4.3-20010813-STABLE and then installed that version via FTP. That version seemed to get rid off all the problems detecting the RAID card. My machine is now up and running.
