FreeBSD wattle.apnic.net 8.1-RELEASE-p2 FreeBSD 8.1-RELEASE-p2 #1: Tue Jan 18 01:06:10 UTC 2011 root@wattle.apnic.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC amd64
>Description:
So, you know you changed sio to uart. And, its not like devices.hints isn't simply copied in-place when you upgrade/install. Nobody edits it.

So, why do you update an UPDATING file to say 'oh, we removed sio and replaced it with uart' when you could have added cp devices.hints /boot/ and be done with it?
>How-To-Repeat:
take a 7.2 system, upgrade to 8.1 following buildworld/buildkernel/installkernel and then try and do lights-out boot single user
>Fix:
update the devices.hints

or.. emit a message to WARN us to update the devices.hints

or make it easier to get into single-user on serial console in the absence of a working devices.hints.
