I won't comment on HP hardware (if they use a Quantum drive it might
be OK).

I have used a Quantum DLT4700 changer (DLT4000 drive, 20GB) with great
success.  I am now using a QUALSTAR TLS-6110 changer (DLT8000 drive,
40GB). This works great as well. I use gtar from ports.
