Subject: merging of various /usr/src/contrib things to -stable; wanted?

In the process of going through this lovely 34MB wad of unidiffs
between -current and -stable, I'm noticing that some of the really
large diffs stem from the update of gawk and its move into
/usr/src/contrib.

So, my question is, what's people's concensus on those tools in
-stable? Do we want to repeat the same sorts of CVS gyrations in
-stable and merge those updated utilities or are the ones we've
currently got in -stable "good enough?" If the answer is "update
them, yes!" then could I also perhaps ask for a little help from the
original committers who created some of these behemoths? :-) You guys
know the split between the /usr/src/foo/stubs and /usr/src/contrib
bits best of all.
