The Quantum Fireball drives are notorious pieces of crap. You haven't
been around enough of those drives if you aren't soured on them.

So, FreeBSD isn't working quite correctly with this particular piece
of crap. You can hardly blame FreeBSD for that, even though FreeBSD
can and probably will work around the problem so that it does work
correctly, it was not FreeBSD's problem to begin with.

An unfortunate drawback of an OS working around a problem in a generic
way via software for a misbehaving device is that it then paves the
way for future devices to behave the same way and get away with it
when the device vendor performs validation against that OS. We can
probably blame this on Windows since that is undoutedly what Quantum
did a majority of their validation against. :-)
