Needless to say, this is _really_ annoying 8(

I have to assume that this isn't something that lots of people see; can
anyone out there using an Ultrastor 34F confirm that they can actually
save their kernel core images? 

(and whereabouts in /etc/rc they put the 'dumpon' command?  It's nowhere 
by default 8()
