Uh, keyboard operation -> mutt does it.

Mail sorting -> procmail does it.

Procmail can be used if you are using fetchmail to snag your pop mail.
I use imap at home, and pop elsewhere. Fetchmail sucks the pop down
and puts it where I tell it to in the imap account. Sendmail delivers
via procmail/cyrus deliver to whatever folder the message is addressed
to (see From: header). Sorting is automatic, email is accessible from
any system, and operation is totally keyboard driven. All mail is
read with Vim thru mutt, so macros specific to mail reading/composing
are simple.

What more could one want?
