That might work....IF I had another FreeBSD box.  :-(

Anyone else have any suggestions for installing without XWindows?

Has anyone ever had success running Tomcat with the linux java ports
install?  I tried that as an alternative but Tomcat just seems to be
croaking on me.

You can build it on a box that has x windows and then install
/usr/ports/x11/XFree...-libraries on your web server and then install the
JDK. It may be fiddly, though. Try it and see how far you get.
