Yes, running lots of rsync.

Also, yes, crashes have happened at night, not sure about 3am 
specifically, I've noticed more like 4am, 5am. But they always seem to 
happen when I'm not around.  Most of our rsync processes happen at night 
starting from 7pm and running all night.
