I still get no echo replies after doing this.

My sequence:

ifconfig ar0 inet <myaddr> <remaddr> up
ifconfig ar0 inet <myalias> <myalias> alias
route delete -host <myalias>
route add -host <myalias> 127.1
ping <myalias>
