Hi There,
It feels strange to be writing an email about a pandemic that *isn't* the one that's consumed our work -- and, in many cases, our lives -- for the past few decades.
We're in the midst of a new viral outbreak in the U.S., and many of the people living with HIV who we serve are anxious. They're understandably concerned about the risks this novel Coronavirus holds for them. They've probably seen media reports and public health experts discussing how those risks appear greater for people who are older, people with chronic health concerns, people with weakened immune systems -- and they're worried about how those warnings apply to them.
We're doing our best to answer those questions with the same rigorous, authoritative approach we take to everything we've been doing at TheBody for the past 25 years. We’re compiling all the information we learn and news we have to report about HIV and COVID-19 as a resource. We encourage you to link to this article, found below, as a way of further supporting the HIV community: What You Need to Know About the New Coronavirus and HIVhttps://www.thebody.com/health/hiv-coronavirus-covid-19
This article is also available in spanish at... Lo Que Necesite Saber Sobre el Nuevo Coronavirus y VIHhttps://www.thebody.com/health/coronavirus-vih-sida
Please let us know if you're fielding any questions, you'd like to see us answer within this resource. Ditto for any leads on important stories you may be hearing regarding misinformation, issues with access to care, stigma/discrimination, or any of the other challenges many people living with HIV in the U.S. face that can become exacerbated during a national health crisis like this.
And above all, thanks for keeping a level head and continuing to provide care and services in a challenging time. We're used to challenging times, obviously, but this moment is going to be uniquely difficult, and I hope you're able to do the little things to keep yourself healthy (physically and mentally) while doing so much to keep the HIV community healthy.
Warmly,
Jen
HIV Outreach Coordinator
