This is getting a little loud for this list yes? Can we leave it? This thread comes up often enough as it is. From past threads I think we can summarise: - The list gets spam becuase it's huge and has a = post-when-not-subscribed policy - That policy is in place because someone decided the benefits outweigh = the hassles. Personally I turn on "View by Thread/Conversation" resulting in a much = less annoying signal/noise ratio. -D -----Original Message----- From: Benjamin Krueger [mailto:benjamin@seattleFenix.net] Sent: vrijdag 9 augustus 2002 10:15 To: Mike Cc: freebsd-questions@freebsd.org Subject: Re: Cell phone crap. * Mike (root@unixhideout.com) [020808 09:19]: >=20 > > At 2002-08-08T08:16:09Z, "Mike" <root@unixhideout.com> writes: > > > >> I'm not on this list to do the FreeBSD's teams bitch work. > > > > You know, I think that you just guaranteed that *noone* connected = with > > FreeBSD is going to help you out on this one. Again, none of my domains get spam = that > isnt easily taken care of. Your crack comment was cute. I now know the > majority of what im dealing with, and why these lists get spam. These lists already employ standard practice spam filtering methods. = Sometimes stuff still gets through, but that number is dwarfed by the number of = spams it successfully prevents. You fail to realize that there is no "authority" = here. The folks who maintain the lists are volunteers. Everyone is a = volunteer. If you would like to help, then by all means offer your services. You have no idea what the "majority of what you're dealing with" is. = There literally a few ten thousands of subscribers to the list. Your broad generalization of an attempted insult isn't cute or productive. I'm sure = folks would appreciate it if you kept it to a minimum so we can keep the noise = down.=20 The lists don't get spam because somebody disagrees with you. The lists = get spam because spammers are still in business. Perhaps it would be more efficient and productive if you went and = whined at the spammers and their ISPs instead of subjecting a few thousand people = to your incessant whining that a FREE resource maintained by Volunteers who = are not compensated in any material way for their efforts is not up to your personal standards.
