FWIW re-tested this against erlang-runtime21 (which is the closest we have
since lang/erlang has been upgraded) and I can't repro this in poudriere
erlang-runtime21-21.3.8.24_1 with similar options.

Can you share any other details about the build environment? Is this a
poudriere build or some other untrustable chimaera?
