I've found a little more info on this issue. Here's a dump from 
/var/log/messages. These lines start pouring in as soon as the JVM tries 
to exit.

It's interesting that there are a couple of page faults at the start, 
but then there are no more. It's just segment-not-present exceptions 
from then on. Another interesting thing is the several second delay 
after each page fault.
