I'm sure they do, but unfortunately, if you're like me, and try to
make installworld without reading UPDATING (stupid, maybe, but there
it is), you fail. They you read UPDATING, then you try to follow the
instructions, which you've just become aware of, as best you can, then
you find you can't do the 'configure a kernel' part, 'cos config spews
error messages complaining that you're missing things like 'machine'
statements in GENERIC. Then you figure you've probably just hosed your
(non-critical home) machine.

In summary, it's not fool-proof. It's not even fool-resistant. This is
unfortunate. This is even understandable. But it's a bit of a shame.
