I don't know where you would go about finding reasonably priced used
alphas but as far as supported platforms go, we can run on most
non-AlphaServer platforms (but not the latest 21264 based systems).
Systems based on the Samsung UX motherboard are not supported.

I have a Personal Workstation 433au and a 533Mhz 164LX based machine here
and they are both decent systems.
