Peter,

Actually, I have a Fujitsu drive that I recently pulled from one of my 
older machines that had the same quirk that you seem to be describing. 
The drive would not recognize properly unless I left off a "large 
chunk" doing nothing, at the end, amounting to the size of about 2mb.
