I've toyed around with the idea of going in and implementing
the "class" database. Some of the things that it would be good for
that I can think of off the top of my head:

password expiration/account expiration terms
process limits (cpu, memory, nproc, etc...setrlimit type stuff)
login limits (e.g. X # of users of this "class")
quota "classes" (could be used integrated into the "protype-user"
    stuff in edquota somehow)

I'm sure there is a lot more than I can't think of right now.

If BSDI would let us see what they store in their database (it
is supposed to be a termcap style database after all),
working backwards from there wouldn't be too hard.
