Hello people.. Now, I hope you've had lots of fun discussing the origins of multimedia, but let's get back to my original question. :-) I'm trying to establish a transmission between two FreeBSD boxes using vat, as a test before I have mbone turned on for our subnet. I can add the session to sd ok, and it shows up, I can open it, but vat appears to be having trouble accessing the audio. 1. On the two machines, the other will drop out of vat (grey-out). Restarting vat brings it back, but only temporary. 2. I get no audio from the other machine, or from the tests. I only get a little `blip' when I quit out of vat. Vat's stats show that packets are getting sent, however. 3. I have trouble with vat losing the audio device (it's bottom titlebar turns italic), and the microphone's VU meters don't move, except the first time I fire it up. If I open the menu, then the microphone doesn't respond in vat. I'm guessing that vat is having trouble communicating with the audio system. Running FreeBSD 2.1-RELEASE and the following from /dev/sndstat (it's the same for both machines, SB AWE32 and an SB32): VoxWare Sound Driver:3.0-beta-950506 (Sun Feb 5 14:38:12 EST 1995 freebsd-hackers@freefall.cdrom.com) Config options: ffffffff Installed drivers: Type 1: OPL-2/OPL-3 FM Type 2: SoundBlaster Type 6: SoundBlaster16 Type 7: SB16 MIDI Card config: SoundBlaster at 0x220 irq 5 drq 1 SoundBlaster16 at 0x0 irq 65535 drq 5 SB16 MIDI at 0x330 irq 65535 drq 4294967295 OPL-2/OPL-3 FM at 0x388 irq 65535 drq 4294967295 Audio devices: 0: SoundBlaster 16 4.12 Synth devices: 0: Yamaha OPL-3 Midi devices: 0: SoundBlaster 16 Midi Timers: 0: System Timer Mixers: 0: SoundBlaster Running VAT 3.4 `i386' version, sd 1.17. Retrieved from ee.lbl.gov. cat file > /dev/audio works OK. Hints, solutions, etc. would be very much appreciated.
