Well, if you turn off soft-updates and use sync mode, it will be created.
Xorg at least leaves messages beginning like:

X.Org X Server 1.4.0
Release Date: 5 September 2007
....

Anyway, I have no idea. It may be due to my patch, or may be due to Xorg 
itself, or something else.

If you use Xorg 7.3 and still have the problem, I'm sorry I cannot help any 
more.
