Darwin's lookupd is open source, but I think it would be too much work=20
to adapt it to FreeBSD, since it is tightly integrated with Darwin's=20
libc and probably depends on Mach IPC primitives.

I think the best bet is to write something reasonably simple from=20
scratch and implement it as an NSS module, so that it can be installed=20
without any changes to the rest of the system, especially without=20
hacking libc.
