My thoughts exactly.

I just deinstalled devel/bison, installed devel/bison1875, and
re-attempted the upgrade, which was successful on both my 4.11 and 5.3
boxen.

I'm sure the bison maintainer is aware of this issue, but I've CC:'ed
this to him anyhow. ;-)

Sean: have you considered implementing some mechanism to easily switch
bison versions, allowing them to coexist on one system?
