Thanks for the reply.  At least I know what the problem is.  But, ummm, 
it's not *my* script.  The search I'm using is the built-in search form 
that comes with Front Page (also known as an "active element").  Here's 
the HTML:

Perhaps this is now too far beyond the bounds of -questions.
