This broke the port in 2.2-stable until John committed the fix.
Please be careful when dealing with incompatibility problems.

And to all, please do NOT commit anything related to the new patch to
the ports tree or bsd.port.mk until I am convinced we understand
exactly what's going on.  (Note this commit by Justin was before I
made the original announcement, so I'm not blaming him for this.)
