A simple principle of IT:  The specialized solution is always more efficient and
better adapted to the specialized problem than is the generalized solution.  So
for routing, a router is always better than a general-purpose timesharing OS.

I don't know what it is running.  Some stripped-down version of UNIX, I guess.
