Daemon News is pleased to announce FreeBSD version 4.9, now available on
four Compact Discs. FreeBSD 4.9 is the latest stable release from the
FreeBSD Project, a worldwide consortium of professional software
engineers.

FreeBSD 4.9 provides up to date security enhancements and stability
improvements over the 4.8 release. Version 4.9 also offers support for
Physical Address Extensions on Intel Pentium III and Pentium 4
processors.

FreeBSD 4.9 ships with support for more than 8,000 applications in the
form of the FreeBSD ports system. The Daemon News distribution includes
thousands of precompiled applications based on ports as well. New to the
4.9 release is a special Java edition, featuring the Diablo JDK binary
installer from the FreeBSD Foundation and more than 300 Megabytes of Java
applications, development tools, and class libraries on Disc 3.

Disc 4 is also all-new, featuring the newly minted "Office Applications
for FreeBSD" collection. A sequel to the highly successful "Office
Applications for Mac OS X," this powerful set includes the OpenOffice.org
application suite, GIMP photo editing, and hundreds more office
productivity applications to make your FreeBSD workstation your personal
assistant.

FreeBSD 4.9 from Daemon News is available immediately from BSD Mall, and
will arrive shortly in quality computer stores such as Fry's Electronics.
