This will blow up portsmon.  I would not be surprised to see it blow
up FreshPorts and Fenner's survey, as well.  I doubt it will do any
favors to Kris' make-index tinderbox, either, since 'make index'
involves a recursive 'make describe'.

IMHO, this is a big-time POLA violation.  Please attempt to come up
with some variation on this solution that doesn't do that.
