Personally, I find it comforting to have a fallback mechanism to prevent me from doing stupid things when I'm trying to fix a frustrating problem with little sleep to help me. Careful as you may be, personally I'm still human. It's probably a mute point, though. Isn't this behaviour mandated by POSIX? On another note ... why does `make world' put the immutable tag on object files during a build?
