Bitmap fonts are enabled by default. You can disable them globally by running ln -s /usr/local/etc/fonts/conf.avail/70-no-bitmaps.conf /usr/local/etc/fonts/conf.d/70-no-bitmaps.conf Chromium seems to do its own thing regarding font rendering.
