It is perhaps worth pointing out we have had XFree86 4.0.1 working duel headed on G400s in the office under both FreeBSD and OpenBSD using the 'linux'[1] driver downloadable from Matrox's website. You seem to need to edit your config by hand (ie the configure fails), also I don't think anyone has exceeded 1024x768 on each screen. [1] Xfree 4 uses Metrolink's OS independant (but arch specific) drivers so this 'linux' driver should be good for any X86 machine.
