To avoid breakages:

If you feel uncertain about something in the ports collection feel free
to ask some ports committer (IRC #bsdports @ efnet, IM or ports-developers@)
or even request a ports committer to do the commit instead of you.

In this particular case there is a also a FAQ what should be done when
removing a port:
