It's probably worth noting that not very many things use them at the moment in Linux, and I wouldn't be surprised if they are deprecated all together in favour of procfs, here an excert from the Linux man page: NOTES The IPC_INFO, SHM_STAT and SHM_INFO operations are used by the ipcs(8) program to provide information on allocated resources. In the future these may modified or moved to a /proc file system interface. So I am really not sure how much value there would be.
