Subject:   How does shared interrupt pci devices work ?

I hope somebody can answer the following simple question.

Is it correct that a shared interrupt compatible card's interrupt handler
should just ignorer any interrupts it recieves which is unexpected ?
Or does the operating system automatically route the interrupt to the right
handler ?
