For me, the need to move to Postfix became very apparent once I wanted to make some [what I thought to be] simple configuration changes (different transports for different domains, virtual mailboxes, etc.). I found sendmail's configuration to be daunting. So I looked elsewhere. About ten years ago I started using Postix and I've not looked back.
