            Bug ID: 212991
           Summary: FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick installer hangs at
                    Archive Extraction ports.txz
           Product: Base System
           Version: 10.3-RELEASE
          Hardware: Any
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Only Me
          Priority: ---
         Component: misc
          Assignee: freebsd-bugs@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: dpchrist@holgerdanske.com

I have a computer:

    Intel DQ67SWR motherboard
    Intel Core i7-2600S processor
    8 GB RAM
    16 GB SSD

I downloaded:

CHECKSUM.SHA256-FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386
FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img.xz

I extracted the second and verified the checksum:

2016-09-25 13:23:53 dpchrist@cd2533 ~/Data/dpchrist/iso/freebsd/10.3
$ sha256sum -c CHECKSUM.SHA256-FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386 2> /dev/null | grep
i386-memstick.img=20
FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img: OK
FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img.xz: OK

I copied FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img to a USB flash drive:

I attempted to use the USB flash drive to install FreeBSD:

    a. Power down.

    b. Insert FreeBSD-10.3-RELEASE-i386-memstick.img USB stick into
rear USB 2 slot. Insert Samsung 16 GB SSD into upper docking
        bay.

    c. Power up.

    d. Press F10 during post to bring up Boot Menu. Use cursor keys
to highlight USB device. Press Enter to boot. Ignore warning:

gptboot: backup GPT header checksum mismatch

    e. At "FreeBSD - Welcome to FreeBSD" screen, cboose

            1. Boot Multi User [Enter]

        or wait for timeout.

    f. At "FreeBSD Installer - Welcome" screen, choose:

            Install

    g. At "FreeBSD Installer - Keymap Selection" screen, choose:

            Continue with default keymap

    h. At "FreeBSD Installer - Set Hostname" screen, enter:

            freebsd

    i. At "FreeBSD Installer - Distribution Selection" screen, enable
        the following selections:

            doc
            games
            ports
            src

    j. At "FreeBSD Installer - Partitioning" screen, choose:

            Auto (ZFS)

    k. At "FreeBSD Installer - ZFS Configuration" screen, configure as
        follows:

            Pool Type/Disks stripe: 1 disk
                ada0
            ...
            Pool Name zroot
            Force 4K Sectors YES
            Encrypt Disks YES
            Partition Scheme MBR (BIOS)
