Hi,

I have some problems (again). Perhaps I've asked some questions in this list
that might look stupid to you, but I'm just starting with a UNIX system. I
have three year experience as a user but setting up a system yourself is
much more ifficult than I expected.

But I've installed the new snap because of the improvements for the
Firewall. And because I had to get the sources to build my own kenel. I
thought: if I must get the sources via ftp, why not get the entire new snapshot?

But when booting the system (with the new kernel) I get some messages I do
not quite understand:
after the normal messages about detected hardware etc.:

/dev/rsd0g: clean, 290049 free (65 frags, 36248 blocks, 0.0% fragmentation)

<bla bla>

I have some questions about this boot:
* what does syslogd mean by cannot assign requested address??
  Is this serious?
* Why does named give all these messages. When named runs on the other machine
(950202-SNAP) I get no messages at all...
* Why does named want to contact 192.36.148.17. This host is in the init-cache
file for named, but why contact it? It's correct that there is no route
because the connection to Internet isn't there (yet).

When I look at ps agx I can see that syslogd is NOT running. So this is
probably why the messages from named are dumped on the screen, not? I think
that syslogd didn't start because of the cannot assign address-message.. But
what does this message mean and how can I prevent it??

HELP. I have to get the server running ASAP because our Internet-provider
has the leased line ready to the Internet and I have to test it!!!

Bye!
and thanks for the answers (again). I know I have asked a lot of questions
but perhaps in a while I can get of your back and answer some questions in
the mailinglists myself.....
