Boot process halts during the detection phase for the scsi adapter; same location. I see another report of scsi problems with the aha device for an Adaptec 1542. I am using the GENERIC kernel doing a make buildkernel followed by make install kernel.. I have also tried doing make buildworld before build kernel with the result result.
