ITYM "snapscan.conf"--at the top of that file, it says "These USB
devices will be probed automatically (This will currently work only on
Linux)".

So SANE uploads firmware to the scanner every time?  May work if the
device is correct.

Based on the comments in the file, it looks like you should say:

usb /dev/uscanner0 bus=usb

> usb 0x04a5 0x1a2a

Dunno what this is supposed to do in Linux, but odds are good that it's
different in FreeBSD.
