Thanks Jeremy (and Doug),

I've just tested this on two systems (listed below) and I'm very happy.
I no longer have "no route to host" problems during startup and network
services needing to be restarted manually.

 System1: 8.1-PRERELEASE with bge and fxp (tested both)
 System2: 8.0-RELEASE-p3 with em

I didn't fiddle any knobs, just set _if and _ip.
