I just ran into this incompatibility with the newer QEMU-KVM machine_type
(pc-q35-4.0 in my case) and no disk to be found on boot with latest pfSense
release 2.5.2 (https://docs.netgate.com/pfsense/en/latest/releases/2-5-2.ht=
ml).

when switching to the older pc-i440fx-3.1 type the same machine boots up ju=
st
fine.

This is unfortunate as usually one has no influence on the virtualized hard=
ware
when i.e. using a hosted service / Cloud provider to run the VMs.
