I am ready to answer to all your questions if they will be more specific.
I don't understand what you mean by "moved around". If you mean that
"expire" code moved earlier, it is the place where standard BSD login
inform about expiration - before /etc/motd and so on printed. This patches
live in SSH1 port for years and I not hear a single objection from you.
