I already seen that before. don't remember the date, but I don't think this
problem is recent.

what is the size of the file you write ? I remember me to have this problem
w/ MP3 files while modifying they ID3. also, I've a low (128 MB or
something like that) file size limit (ulimit -a).

just to be sure, try to run scandisk on the partition, then try again ?
maybe the problem is around there ?
