I'm going to assume the tar distributed with BSD/OS is the BSD
tar (it's really pax), and it's already shipped with FreeBSD,
it's just that /bin/tar is not linked to /bin/pax by default. I
have a setup that accomplishes the same thing as linking /bin/tar
to /bin/pax and that tar works fine.
