Does it still work with Microsoft?  Then I strongly doubt it's what
killed your CPUs, and I can understand that your dealer doesn't want
to replace it.  I have never heard of any case of FreeBSD causing
hardware damage before.  I don't see anything in your reports so far
that suggests that this is the case here.

There shouldn't be any particular restriction.  I'd suggest you look
at what's available, make a short list, and ask what people think of
each specific motherboard.
