Does anyone know of any way to remove that stale utmp > entry? Take a look at http://www.unixfreak.org/~dima/files/logout.c. It does just that. Download it, compile it (`cc logout.c -o logout -lutil`), and run it (in your case, `./logout ttyp1`). If you have any problems please let me know.
