I managed to get the screen to pause and discerned an error message: ACPI disabled by blacklist MADT: ACPI Startup failed with AE_ERROR panic: Using MADT but ACPI doesn't work Old archived messages offer a solution that requires altering the loader.conf file, but I don't want to maintain a system that requires a different set of install disks then all the others. Hence, I'll likely be replacing the system. Thanks, John H.
